Custom Night Guards

We’ll have you smiling in your sleep

If we find signs that suggest you’ve been grinding your teeth in your sleep we’ll likely suggest using a custom fitted nightguard, especially if you’ve also been experiencing sore jaw joints and headaches. Nightguards usually fit snuggly over the biting surface of your upper teeth, protecting them from further damage. They also help to open your bite, which stops you from clenching with force. This helps relieve jaw pain which means fewer headaches and more smiles. Which is what the team at Keys Dental want to see!

Making the perfect nightguard

Once you’ve decided a nightguard is what you want, we’ll take an impression of your upper and lower jaw. This appointment usually only takes 20 minutes.

We send the impression to a laboratory where your nightguard is custom made. This can take anywhere from 5 to 10 days depending on the lab.

When your nightguard is ready we’ll get you in for the fitting. We’ll want to be sure that your nightguard fits snuggly in place for maximum effectiveness. This appointment can take as little 10 minutes.

FAQs on Dental Nightguards

I have recently had a nightguard made; why do I keep waking up without it in my mouth?Icons/Icon_ArrowDown_48x48_Grey

If you find your new nightguard wrapped up in your sheets, relax, this is normal. You can expect this to happen while you’re still getting used to sleeping with it in. And as they say, practice makes perfect so continue wearing it, because before long, you’ll be waking with it still in place. Sweet dreams.

How do I clean my nightguard?Icons/Icon_ArrowDown_48x48_Grey

Before using your nightguard, always rinse it under cold water. In the mornings, use a soft toothbrush to clean the inside and outside of your nightguard. Using abrasive toothpastes for cleaning is not a good idea because it can damage the surface.

It’s best to store your nightguard in the container that it came in. Nightguards do not like heat, so store yours in a cool dry place as heat can distort and destroy it.  We also will ask you to bring your nightguard to your 6 monthly examination appointment, so we can review the fit and check for signs of wear and tear.
